Startups
Six years ago, I started working at a consultant agency. I have helped build startups for various types of companies with different users, needs, and problems. This has provided me with skills to be a better designer, and they all relate to each other (this isn’t sorted by any particular order, all of them are important).
Minimum Viable Product
This ability refers to the capacity to recognize and prioritize which aspects of the experience will allow me to communicate the story from beginning to end in the most efficient way possible, allowing me to support the users. There’s no time to waste, build fast.
Iterate
This skill relates to my ability to comprehend failure and reconsider things in a timely manner to make them right. The best way to figure out what is right is to test ideas and fail. After evaluating real usage data and learning what people desire, what they don't understand, and the flaws in my design, I can make informed decisions to support my users. There’s no time to waste; build fast, iterate fast, learn fast.
Don’t fall in love
I'm a passionate designer, and that shows in the care and attention I give to everything I create. However, falling in love with a particular design could cloud my judgment and hinder me from moving quickly. I've discovered that letting go is the most effective way to go forward.
There’s no time to waste; build fast, iterate fast, learn fast, and move forward.
